Kids Classes & Parent classes
The Grand River Karate Kids and Parent Class is a not-for-profit program. All of our instructors volunteer to support the development of children in Waterloo Region. The requirements and content are designed to help children improve coordination, confidence, memory, and teach them the importance of cooperation, friendship and teamwork. Next SessionSpring Session 2012 - Thursdays, March 29 to May 17Pre-Registration - Thurday March 8 at 6:15pm. Must register at our dojo location. Spots are limited. Kids Age RangeChildren must be 7 to 12 years old to participate in the kids classes.Kids HandBookEach child will receive a GRK HandBook during class with fun weekly assignments, e.g., cleaning their bedrooms, stopping arguments from getting bigger, etc. Your child is required to complete the assignment as part of their grading requirements.Requirements ManualThis manual contents all the requirements needed for each stripe and belt level. There is also some additional information on our style, association, our dojo and some fun cartoons by Sensei Fortunato. Click Here to Download.Parents can train during kids classesNow you can share what you are learning with your child. If you register your child/children you are welcome to train. An instructor is assigned to help parents cover the same material as your children. It is not mandatory but we currently have many parents that participate. The style we train in is very healthy and we keep it light and fun! To participate download the Parent Registration Form, print out, fill out and bring it in on registration day.New MembersClassesThursdays 6:15 P.M. to 7:15 P.M. Sign up is 5:45pm on the first day of each session. Each session is 8 weeks. Sessions run 3 times a year. Fall Session 2011 - Thursdays, Sept 23 to Nov 10 Winter Session 2012 - Thursdays, Jan 12 to Mar 1 Spring Session 2012 - Thursdays, March 29 to May 17 Fees $40 per Child $10 per Parent Kids & Parents Purple belt (10th Kyu) & upClasses - 3 Classes available per week.Tuesday 6:15 P.M. to 7:15 P.M. Thursdays 6:15 P.M. to 7:15 P.M. Saturday 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Fees $80 per Child (Pay on Registration day of each session) $20 per Parent Note Training is Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from September to June. Thursdays closed between sessions. PaymentCheque or cash. Cheques are to be made out to Grand River Karate.Email ListOnce you become a member you are welcome to be on our private email list and receive your manual. This email list is only used by our Board of Directors to contact our members and not shared with any other organization. Uniforms Includes 2 patches.Must be sewn on by the following class. Kids $30 Parents $50 Coming From Another Style?Since Okinawa Shido-kan Shorin Ryu differs from other martial arts and other karate styles and our requirements for each level are very specific, students coming from other styles are required to begin at white belt. However, depending on your skill level you may progress quicker.
