Are you or do you know someone that is karate obsessed? For someone outside of the art, a practitioner may seem rather strange. I want to make it clear that I have made great efforts to not to appear as one of the obsessed!
Unfortunately, my wonderful wife Lindsay, who lives a normal, reasonable life outside the art, made it very clear that I'm living an illusion. I am obsessed. I think about it all the time. If I'm the only one in an elevator I'll punch the walls. I bow when entering a room. I'll use Japanese "Usa" or "Hi" instead of "Yes". I'll do kata in the kitchen instead of the dishes. I'll watch karate videos and DVD's over and over again...and then I'll watch them again. And when I sleep my twitches are back fists and front kicks. You get the picture.
Don't get me wrong. Lindsay is proud that I have a passion, found something that I love to do and want to continue to master. So when she makes comments like...
"You want to try what on me? Just get it over with."
or
"Your techniques are so fast. Lets see how fast you can clean the house."
or simply
"Get a life."
I realize that these comments actually give me balance. They help me look at myself from the outside in. Or inside out. Or help me be at one with myself. Aaah! There I go again.
So for all you karate obsessed, or family and friends on the outside, or anyone who wants a laugh, I created a few cartoons for all to enjoy. Just click the links on the cartoons below for full-sized images.
Thank you!
